The business problem

Shop owners told us the same things: cashier totals never quite match the drawer, M-Pesa payments cannot be traced to a sale, stock leaks are only found at stock-take, and you have to be in the shop to know how it is doing.

Our solution

A point of sale and back office built for how Kenyan shops trade. Each shop runs at its own web address with its own database, the till keeps selling when the internet drops, and the owner sees sales, stock and profit from anywhere.

Key capabilities

  • Fast checkout with a barcode scanner, touch screen or phone
  • Stock per branch, goods received, stock-takes and reorder alerts
  • Sell by weight, by pack or by piece
  • M-Pesa statement check: upload the statement and match every till payment
  • Manager approval before anything is sold below the shelf price
  • Keeps selling offline and catches up when the connection returns
  • Daily profit, best sellers and slow movers
  • Barcode labels and a customer price-check screen

Implementation scope

Designed, built and hosted by us. For each shop we set up the address and database, load the catalogue from a spreadsheet and train the staff.

M-Pesa payment prompts (Daraja) and KRA eTIMS invoice signing are built in and switch on per shop once that shop's credentials are approved; neither has yet been run live, so until then the cashier enters the M-Pesa code at the till.
