The business problem

For many small businesses the books are a pile of M-Pesa messages: it is hard to know whether the month made a profit, and customers who owe money are easily forgotten.

Our solution

A bookkeeping assistant that lives in WhatsApp, so there is nothing new to install: it reads the messages you forward and keeps the books for you.

Key capabilities

  • Reads sales, expenses and debts written the way owners talk, in Swahili or English
  • Asks for the owner's consent before it keeps any records
  • Today's sales, expenses and profit on request, and an evening summary
  • Who owes the shop, with reminders for customers who owe
  • Imports an M-Pesa statement (CSV) into the books
  • Undo the last entry with one word

Implementation scope

Our own product, in development. It runs in a simulator that shows a WhatsApp-style conversation beside the shop's books; the screenshot is a demo shop.

The WhatsApp connection is built but has not yet been run live, and Daraja, eTIMS and stock are not built yet.
